Acquire This Photo Species: Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga) Location: Everglades National park, Florida, United States Age: adult     Plumage: basic/year-round     Activity: swimming Sex: female     Visibility: head only     Quantity: single Photographer: Judd Patterson     Date: January 12, 2008 Equipment: Canon EOS 40D and Canon 500mm f/4L IS     Megapixels: 6.0
Notes: The Anhinga, sometimes called the "snake bird" is an amazing swimmer. While hunting fish, they will frequently raise just their heads above water. After grabbing a breath and looking around, they slide silently back under water (the moment captured here). They are really fun to watch!
